How the room runs
The first pour and guest setup are ready before the host begins.
The tasting has enough structure to create discovery without becoming a lecture.
Food, glassware, leftover wine, and cleanup responsibilities are clear before booking.
The experience
Explore two names for one grape through bottles chosen for contrast. Request an NYC Syrah and Shiraz evening with a seated comparison, a food revisit, and enough context to move beyond a simple France-versus-Australia story. The actual lineup is agreed during planning.
Choose a regional contrast or a producer-style contrast.
Use a similar spending range where it supports a fair comparison.
Approve opening and serving plans for the actual bottles.
Updated
Syrah and Shiraz are names for the same grape. The name on the label does not, by itself, settle how a wine will taste. A useful flight compares selected producers and places while acknowledging differences in vintage, maturity, and production. Wine Australia's varietal material explicitly identifies Shiraz as Syrah, making it a good starting reference. From there, let the glasses create the discussion. Ask guests to compare structure and aroma before deciding whether the labels matched their expectations.
Use this as a starting brief. These are proposed directions, not a fixed package, guaranteed bottle list, or scheduled public event.
| Stage | Focus | Planning purpose |
|---|---|---|
| First wine | A selected Syrah-labelled bottle | Describe without a country stereotype |
| Second wine | A selected Shiraz-labelled bottle | Identify similarities as well as differences |
| Reveal | Producer, place, vintage | List what changed beyond the name |
| Food return | A shared pairing | Choose the best context for each |
Two main wines can carry a surprisingly rich evening if guests have time to return to them. A third bottle should answer a question the first pair leaves open, not simply lengthen the tasting. For a dinner, ask whether the kitchen can serve a pairing after the initial comparison. In a corporate room, keep the first discussion accessible and leave technical details for questions from interested guests.
Share your date or date range, guest count, NYC location, and total spending allowance. Tell us whether you already have a venue and what you want the host to handle. The quote should distinguish wine, hosting, food, rentals, venue charges, and service where applicable.
